in skeletal class III malcclusion after orthodontic treatment by using Begg
technique fixed appliance. Dentoskeletal changes were measured on lateral
cephalograms with McNamara analysis, that include measurement of position of
maxilla and mandible to cranium base, maxilla and mandible length, lower
anterior face height, facial axis angle, mandible plane angle, position of upper and
lower incisors to cranium base.
This study was conducted to 23 lateral cephalograms from male and
female subjects, aged between 18-30 years old, had ANB angle between -4 � 2°
and there were no anterior open bite. The whole subjects were treated with Begg
technique which was requiring extraction of two lower first premolars or two
upper second premolars and two lowes first premolars. Data were analyzed with
chi square and paired t-test statistics.
The result of this study showed that there were statistically significant
changes (p�0,05) in terms of lower anterior face height, facial axis angle,
mandible plane angle, position of upper and lower incisors to cranium base, while
there were unsignificant changes (p�0,05) in terms of position of maxilla and
mandible to cranium base, maxilla and mandible length after orthodontic
treatment with Begg technique. This study concluded that position of maxilla
didn�t change more anteriorly, position of mandible didn�t change more
posteriorly, there were no increasing of maxilla length and decreasing of mandible
length but there were an increasing of lower anterior face height, facial axis angle,
mandible plane angle, and position of upper incisor changed more anteriorly and
lower incisors changed more posteriorly after orthodontic treatment by using
Begg technique |
