| Summary: | High Tide can impact inundation and abrasion in southern coastal area of Ende City. The aims of this research are to define the comprehension and perception of community in term of coastal inundation and abrasion due to high tide in southern coastal of the Ende city, to define the impact of this high tide based on field check and interview, and to determine adaptation strategy or government policy to adopt coastal inundation and abrasion. This research is to find out attitude, interaction and behavior of community in vulnerable area because of coastal inundation and abrasion. What have been done by government to manage the risk of coastal inundation and abrasion. 130 samples from 6 sub district was taken by using purposive multistage area sampling. This method purposes to get analysis unit. The samples interviewed using questionnaire about perception and adaptation that have been done. The result of this research shows that the adaptation of the community is influenced by some factors that are depth of inundation, flood duration, level of abrasion and capacity of community in correlation with social economy factors. The community has had the experience in coastal inundation disaster and abrasion. Depth of flood is about less than 25 - more than 100 cm in the research area and duration of the flood is about 1 hour until more than 4 hours. Coastal inundation and abrasion in the study area give significant impact to community. Worse abrasion occurs in this area. Low income and limited job are the reason why the community keeps stay in disaster area. The type of adaptation of community in this area is based on structural, economy and social point of view.
The strategy that has been done by government of Ende Regency to minimize impact of coastal inundation and abrasion involved physical and non physical management. By combining physical and non physical mitigation is the best option for decreasing impact of coastal inundation and abrasion. Cooperation between stakeholder including government, social agency and community is the main key to handle coastal inundation and abrasion. Integrated strategy, policy and planning from the government by involving community can manage and mitigate coastal inundation and abrasion in effective manner.
