The aim of the research is to find out the effect of ion implantation on the hardness and wear of the ball bearing material. Hardness distribution test was done to the material of the ball bearing race without ion implantation and after implanted. The C dan N ion implantation was done variying the 60, 70 80 90 and 100 minutes time with energy constant is 100 keV. Hardness test was done by using micro Vickers test instrument at identation load of 25 gram. Wear value was achieved by variying load on wear machine test with axial load 50N and radial load 50N, axial load 50N and radial load 100N, and axial load 100N and radial load 100N . Wear was done variying time 3, 6, and 9 hours. The result of the research shows that the hardness of the outer ring, inner ring and ball decrease along with the addition of the distance of the race. The baal has the highest hardness (646 VHN) inner ring 537 VHN and the outer ring has the lowest hardness (431 VHN). After implanted violence of ball and ring are as follows: outer ring 684 VHN, inner ring 776 VHN and ball 895 VHN. Results of the testing composition of ball bearing race before implantation is steel alloy with the main element for outer ring, inner ring and ball are high alloy steel and cage is medium alloy steel. After ion implanted the main element of C and N : 1,45% N and 4,66% C. After implanted the wear rate become decrease. Wear rate is higher 5,21 x 10-7 mm3/N.m decrease become 1,99 x 10-7 mm3/N.m in axial load 100 N and radial load 100 N distribution rate is lower from 1,33 x 10-7 mm3/N.m to 3,76 x 10-7 mm3/N.m in axial load 50 N and radial load 50 N.
