Summary: | Each time flood strikes Jakarta, it has become a common notion that the
mass of water must have disgorged from a neighboring city, Bogor. This common
notion is reasonable as most rivers that flow through Jakarta have their origin in
the high lands of Bogor. This study attempts to devise a flood potential earlywarning system by means of real-time accumulation of water elevation data of
rivers in Bogor that flow through Jakarta.
The water elevation measurement system consists of sensors, microcontroller, external memory, real-time clock, and communication devices.
Records of water elevation data are stored in the memory for external reporting
system. The reporting system utilizes short messaging system (SMS)
telecommunications as a means to send information packets containing water
elevation level, debit, and elevation status.
The system testing conducted in this study indicates a measurement error
(Sqi) with accuracy of ± 2.8 cm. The accuracy of the test was highest on water
altitude of 200 cm and at position 80% of the maximum scale, at which the
measurement error is equal to 0%.
