sophisticated, will not achieve the safety of shipping if they are not accompanied by reliable
competence of the crew, especially ship captain. This study aimed at determining the competence
of captain in reading Navigation Aids with Numeric in port channel and in the general
navigation channel at the Port of Tanjung Priok Jakarta, in order to achieve the safety of
shipping.
The research applied Likert-scale questionnaire with open and semi-open questions. The
questionnaire consisted of five independent variables and one dependent variable. It applied
descriptive-analysis method to determine the percentage of ship captain�s competence in reading
Navigation Aids with Numeric and Multiple Regression Analysis to recognize the correlation
between the total of ship captain�s competence in reading Navigation Aids with Numeric with the
five general situation in general channel and port channel.
The result of the descriptive analysis showed that most of ship captains, i.e. 72,3 %, were
in the stage of capable in reading Navigation Aids with Numeric. The result of Multiple
Regression Analysis showed that ship captain� competence in reading Navigation Aids with
Numeric in port channel to general channel (X1), ship captain�s competence in reading
Navigation Aids with Numeric in general channel during daytime (X2), ship captain�s
competence in reading Navigation Aids with Numeric in general channel during nighttime (X3),
ship captain�s competence in reading Navigation Aids with Numeric from general channel to
port traffic (X4), and ship captain� competence in reading Navigation Aids with Numeric during
uncommon situation (X5), affected the total of ship captain� competence in reading Navigation
Aids with Numeric in port channel and general channel in Port of Tanjung Priok Jakarta (Y).
With p<0,05 and R2 was 75,4 %, resulted in model Y = 0,120 + 0,167 X1 + 0,248 X2 + 0,129
X3 + 0,224 X4 + 0,200 X5. |
