Description
Summary:Power over Ethernet (PoE) started to develop in the year 2000 along with the development of VoIP, and Wireless LAN. Regarding the power supply, the same as analog telephone, VoIP uses centralized power source for the operation. WLAN needs flexible power source for the operation. IEEE immediately released the standard for power source distribution by means of cable for this need, that is IEEE 802.3af. The electric power provided based on this standard is 13 watt on a 48 volt DC voltage. In this research, 220 volt AC voltage and 50 Hz frequency were used, so that the electric power could reach 300 watt. Since the voltage used 220 volt AC, a feasibility test was carried out towards the Cat 5E cable for 220 volt AC voltage. Bandwidth measurement was conducted to find out the effect of 50 Hz frequency interference to the data package sent through Cat 5E cable. The load in this research was inductive load, capacitive load, and resistive load. The result of research shows that Cat 5E cable is adequate to be given 220 volt AC voltage with maximum load in accordance with the wire capacity. 50 Hz frequency of PLN (State Electricity Company) that is used does not affect on the data communication.
