Summary: | Background: One fundamental requirement in dental services is to ensure that
the decision for medical intervention should meet the standard and safety.
Availability of standard gives the benefits of minimizing process variation, fulfilling
professional requirement, providing the foundation of quality measurement. Non
adherence to standard operational procedure of tooth extraction is still commonly
found. The aim of the study to identify factors influencing adherence of dentists to
the implementation of SOP of tooth extraction in health facilities at Bukittinggi
Municipality and District of Agam.
Method: The study was a survey that used a cross sectional approach.
Respondents consisted of 52 dentists. Research instruments were questionnaire
and checklist to assess knowledge, attitude, age and gender of dentists,
availability of facilities, implementation system of SOP and organizational support
for the adherence of dentists to SOP of tooth extraction. Data analysis used
double regression test and product moment correlation.
Result: The result of regression analysis showed that all independent variables:
knowledge, gender, SOP implementation system, organizational support and
attitude, except age and availability of facilities, were significantly associated with
adherence of dentists in the implementation of SOP on tooth extraction. All
independent variables, except age and availability of facilities, contributed as
much as 68.4% (R2=0.684) to adherence of dentists in the implementation of
SOP on tooth extraction and attitude of dentists toward SOP of tooth extraction
contributed 17.5% (partial eta square=0.175) to their adherence in the
implementation of SOP on tooth extraction.
Conclusion: 1) Improved knowledge, attitude, implementation on system of
SOP, and organizational support meant increased adherence of dentists to
implement SOP of tooth extraction
