Summary:Massage was a tactile/kinesthetic stimulation that has biochemical dan physiologic effect to the body. Massage stimulation that was given by the mothers to their newborn infant may promote maternal-infant bonding and attachment, enhanced weight gain and stimulate the production of breast milk. There were only few studies about the effects of massage stimulation in enhancing weight gain for aterm infants. The effect of massage stimulation in the infants� weight gain still controversion. This research aims to examine the effect of massage stimulation on the weight gain of aterm infants. A quasi experimental design was held in Sanglah General Hospital and Bunda Setia Maternity Clinic. Massage stimulation was given by the mother once daily for four weeks periode. Massage stimulation was provided to 30 aterm infants and their weight gain were compared with a group of 31 control infants. Bivariat methods were used to analyze the data with level of confidence α = 0.05. The median weight gain of infants who received massage stimulation (1 230 gram) were significantly different compared to the control group (830 gram) with P value 0.028. This research revealed that aterm infants who got massage stimulation once daily for four weeks periode had significantly weight gain compared to the control group.
