description Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is considered to be the common disease and only the second in frequency to upper respiratory tract infection. The urine culture is the most common microbiologic tests in confirming the UTI diagnosis, so far. This test, is however considered not so practical, time consuming, and expensive. The flow cytometry method as urine analyzer has been introduced to be a more practical and reliable microbiological tests for UTI. The aim of this study is to determine the validity and the cut-off value of the test. The study was performed by using cross sectional design. The urine samples were drawn from lower UTI suspected patients, age between 18-60 years, admitted to the outpatient department of internal medicine of Moewardi Hospital at Surakarta. The diagnosis of UTI was determined by comparing the test results with urine culture as the gold standard which is considering as positive samples with > 105 CFU/mL. Analitic parameters such as : ROC, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and likelihood ratio were performed to demonstrate the analytic performance. The number of bacteria by urine flow cytometry method has a sensitivity of 90% for screening UTI and specificity of 80% for diagnosing UTI.
