description Eutectic Mixture of Local Anesthetics (EMLA) is often used as a topical analgesia prior to surgery. EMLA occlusive application takes 60 minutes to achieve adequate cutaneous analgesia. Electroporation method of EMLA application is expected to accelerate adequate cutaneous analgesia compare with occlusive method of EMLA application. This study compares the occlusive method of EMLA cream application with the electroporation method of EMLA application for 10 minutes to reduce pain after electrofulguration stimulation using the same subjects. This study compare the differences VAS scores to determine pain score between two groups and compare the number of cases that reach the effect of adequate cutaneous analgesia. The results showed that there was a decrease of VAS score from initial score (10) in both groups (31 subjects) where VAS score in EMLA electroporation group was significantly lower compared to EMLA occlusive group (wilcoxon p = 0.000). In EMLA electroporation group there were 26 (83.87%) subjects achieved adequate cutaneous analgesia whereas none (0%) in EMLA occlusive group. There were 80% male and 80,95% female in EMLA electroporation group showed adequate cutaneous analgesia, where the differene was not statistically significant (chi-square p = 0.095). Application of EMLA with electroporation method for 10 minutes can reduce pain greater and can reach adequate cutaneous analgesia compared with EMLA occlusive method.
