description | This study aims to describe the condition of subjective well-being
Indonesian lecturer that has taught in universities in Malaysia. Subjective wellbeing
aspects examined consisted of life satisfaction, positive affect and negative
affect. The research method employed the qualitative phenomenology descriptiveanalysis
with in-depth interviews to explore and gather information from 6
respondents, consisting of 3 respondents teaching in public universities and 3
respondents teaching in private universities. The respondents were male, aged 40-
60 years (middle adulthood), with 10 years working experience in Malaysia and
left the family in Indonesia. The study was conducted at Universiti Tun Hussein
Onn (UTHM) Batu Pahat, Johor Bahru and Legenda Education Group in Mantin,
Negeri Sembilan.
Research process is epoche (by neglecting judgments, biases and
consideration upon anything), phenomenological reduction (by expressing into a
language which can describe what one's experience), imaginative variation
(achieve the structural description of experience, the factors fundamental and
influencing what has been experienced), and synthesis of meaning and essence
(integrate the basis of textural and structural descriptions into a single statement as
the essence of the experience of the phenomenon as a whole experienced).
Analysis method and data interpretation are to make a verbatim transcript of the
interview, understand and seek for statements in the interview, bracketing,
horizontalization, clusterization of meaning, imaginative variation and combined
into general conclusion.
The result showed that the Indonesian lecturers working in Malaysia in
general have various the subjective well-being. Not all the aspects such as: work,
economic conditions, education, wellness, social life, satisfaction in themselves
valuable. Because they still feel the negative emotions in workplace. Although
they have a high satisfaction of their lives globally. |
