Summary: | Consumption of electric energy needs the constant frequency and voltage of electric
power. The load variation in a constant flow rate changes the micro hydro power
plant (MHPP) output. The changing of steady state condition to the new load causes an
adjustable process called transient, where it happens before the new steady state condition is
attained. MHPS usually uses ELC (Electronic Load Controller) as governor to control the
frequency and voltage. ELC works to stabilize electric frequency and voltage based on the
preferred reference when changing load by controlling current to the ballast load.
MHPP simulation uses generator-set. The approaching model of generator-set and
ELC is made by using adaptive control approach model order 1 for ELC and order 2 for
generator-set. Transient testing is based on the changing of generator-set load with ELC and
without ELC. The result of transient testing are overshoot current, steady state current,
overshoot time, steady state time, and transient cycle.
The testing result and simulation with Matlab Simulink software, shows maximum
comparison between overshoot and steady state is 2,664. It is gained in testing of 50 Watt to
550 Watt and the overshoot time is 9-10 ms or 0.01 second. Response to activate ELC is
setting 255 ms or 23 cycles while the load increase and 125.6 ms or 12 cycles while the load
decrease after new steady state condition.
