| description | This study describes the public participation in direct local elections
in Karimun regency - Riau Islands Province, which was held on January 5,
2011. The level of community participation shows that the total 166,818
registered voters in the voters list only 91,390 or 54.8% of voters who use
their voting rights, while as many as 75,428 voters or 45.2% did not use
the right to vote. Therefore, studies were conducted to describe the
empirical conditions of the stages and processes of local elections and to
determine what factors lead to low community participation.
The data used is in the form of primary data and secondary data.
Primary data processing is the result obtained by direct interview of the
informant, while secondary data is data in the form of archives, mass
media, or documents relating to the matter being investigated. This study
was descriptive using a qualitative approach.
The results showed that there are at least three reasons that a
person does not participate in the election. First : the factors voters or
election voters sound, as in the work, a sense of the saturation of the
voters. Second : political factors, namely, the notion that the elections are
conducted not bring anything changes. The results of this study can not be
used as a reference for other research in the region. Therefore there must
be the same research in other areas to find / compare the results of this
study to determine other factors that lead to low community participation in
local elections. Third : factors related to the implementation of the
management problems of the time and financial and technical,
administration such as delays in the disbursement of the budget for the
elections, voters do not receive a letter of invitation, or they have not
received a voter card. |
