Summary: | Effect of zinc sulfate against Porphyromonas gingivalis was examined in
this study. Concentration of zinc sulfate at 2.2%, 1.1%, 0.55%, 0.27%, 0.13%,
0.06%, 0.03%, 0.015%, 0.007% and 0.003% was tested on P. gingivalis to check
the bacterial growth.
The inhibitory activity of zinc sulfate was examined on suspension of P.
gingivalis bacteria by dilution, for inspecting the turbidity, and using
spectrophotometer assited absorption observations . The inhibitory activity was
further confirmed by culture in blood agar and bacterial count.
Inspection with direct visual on turbidity increased at zinc sulfate 0.06%
and supported by the result of spectrophotometer. Minimal inhibitory
concentration against P. gingivalis at 0.13% (p<0.05) concentration of zinc
sulfate, proved by no bacterial growth on blood agar and bacterial count. In this
study, zinc sulfate had capability to inhibit P. gingival growth at 0.13%
concentration.
