Summary: | Background: Early detection is the core function of surveillance-response
system. The system should be able to detect outbreak rapidly and take
appropriate response. The implementation of surveillance-response system in
Donggala currently not running well because of the less timeliness and high
frequency of outbreak. Supported by advances in information technology and
communication, the SMS-based information system developed to strengthen
early warning system.
Objective: This research aims to develop a surveillance-response
information system based on SMS in a timely, complete and accurate to
strengthen the implementation of early warning system in Donggala.
Methods: Qualitative research with action research approach. Research
carried out in stages starting from the identification of the existing surveillance
system, identifying problems and needs of the system, prototyping,
implementation, and evaluation.
Results: Identified problems in the implementation of surveillance system.
Prototype of SMS-based surveillance-response information system was made
using PHP programming language and MySQL database. The system could
record data via SMS automatically and the output of the system are weekly
disease trend, ten diseases graphs, and mapping of case distribution. The
information is accurately and timely. The system is relatively simple to use, so
the performance of early warning system increase and running well.
Conclusion: Surveillance-response information system based on SMS that
have been developed, improve the implementation of early detection and
rapid response and strengthening surveillance-response system in Donggala.
