Summary: | The purpose of this research to demonstrate the yield of charcoal and to
interpret the effect of pyrolysis temperature and time on quality charcoal
briquettes from waste solid dried leaves red onion in Brebes.
The research method used is a variation of pyrolysis temperature of 300,
400, and 500 degree C for 2, 3, and 4 hours. The results of solid waste after the pyrolysis of finely ground 35 mesh pass screen with a ratio of starch adhesive 1: 10 and water 1: 10. The parameters studied were water content, ash content, volatile
matter content, fixed carbon content, heating value, density, compressing testing,
drop shatter, and combustion rate.
The results show that there are effects of temperature and time of
pyrolysis on the yield of charcoal, dried onion leaves. At the treatment
temperature and time increased, the yield decreased from 57.72 to
34.78%, the treatment temperature and time increased, the better the quality
of briquettes, the temperature and the best time is the treatment temperature
of 500 degree C with a time of 4 hours, producing a yield on the temperature and the
time is equal to 34.78 %, the water content of 7.16 %, ash content of 34.99 %,
volatile matter content of 14.16%, fixed carbon content of 43.67%, heating
value of 4018.88 cal/ g, density of 0.77 g/cm3, compressing testing of 154.47
kg/cm2, drop shatter of 0.28 %, and combustion rate of 6.08 mg /s, briquette quality is generally good, meet SNI and other countries
