| description | Background
Attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a highly heritable,
commonly diagnostic psychiatric syndrome with onset in early childhood.
Although its etiology is unknown, most study recognize a range of possible
determinants including genetic, biological, and psychosocial factors and the
effects of exposure to environmental toxins. Several literatures suggesting that
maternal tobacco exposure during pregnancy have adverse effect on risk for
ADHD.
Objective
To assess the risk of maternal tobacco exposure as second hand smoke
during pregnancy for ADHD and the type of ADHD and maternal tobacco
exposure during pregnancy among children of elementary school in Banguntapan,
Bantul Distric, in Special Government of Yogyakarta.
Method
A case control population based study with cluster random sampling
Subject eligible for case are children with ADHD,7-12 years old, Control Group
are the Healthy Children without ADHD, 7-12 years old.ADHD measured by
DSM IV and SPPAHI. To know about maternal tobacco exposure during
pregnancy measured by Questionnaire.
Result
Maternal tobacco exposure as second hand smoke during pregnancy have
a risk for ADHD.(OR 2,91 CI 95%: 1,48 � 5,71 |
