Summary: | Background: Road traffic safety issue is presently a global problem receiving
attention from international community. Based on the World Bank survey,
Indonesia has been the largest contributor to the traffic accident rate. The
traffic accident rates in Indonesia has been increasing during the last five
years. Total traffic accidents in 2005-2009 were 24,752 incidents. Motorbikes
has been the type of vehicle most frequently involved in traffic accident.
Those generally involved in the accidents are of productive age, i.e. 15-44
years. In 2009 the number of accidents occurred in Sleman district were 1590
incidents resulting in minor (79%), severe (20%), and fatal injuries (1%).
Objective: To identify the spatial relationship of the risk factors if traffic
accidents in Sleman district during 2009.
Method: The type research is observational, using cross sectional design
with 10% total population randomly taken, and using purposive sampling
method.
Result: GeoDa regression test showed that behavior (p = 0.001) and vehicle
speed (p = 0.018) had relationship with traffic accidents. Logistic regression
test indicated that the type of vehicle (p = 0.015) and incident hour (p = 0.011)
had relationship with traffic accidents, with the fatality risk on non-motorvehicle
of (4.72) times greater than motor vehicles, and period of 18.00 pm
5.59 showing fatality risk of (2.82) times greater than period of 6.00 am to
17:59 pm.
Conclusion: The fatality risk of traffic accidents in Sleman district was
affected by the type of motor vehicle and occurred at night before dawn.
