that had the potential of an earthquake causing the cyclic behavior of silty sand soil at the
site kelanauan �iwa Temple became important because of the potential for larger
earthquakes could be occurred and threatened the stability of the structure of the temple.
This study aimed to determine the effects of soil density and the PGA (Peak Ground
Acceleration) of the cyclic behavior of silty sand soil on which the temple stood.
The silty sand soil which had been sampled was the soil of �iwa ground around the
temple and taken at a depth of 2-3 m from ground. Disturbed soil samples were tested
using cyclic triaxial apparatus. Tests performed with two parameter variation of soil
density variations (medium and dense) and variations on the ratio of cyclic stress, SR (for
the case of an earthquake presented by the maximum ground acceleration, amax or PGA).
The results showed that soil strain that occurred increased with density and a lower
value of SR(Stress Ratio). Soil density factor had more influence than the SR used in cyclic
loading. Soil samples did not showed the soil failure which caused by liquefaction and
cyclic mobility. Different soil density on the surface and bottom of Temple would cause
differences in deformation behaviour that occurred during earthquake loading. For amax =
0,2g, soil on the bottom of �iwa Temple showed relatively small deformation increment,
for soil on the surface which had looser density would have bigger deformation. For amax =
0,3g and 0,4g loading, soil experienced great deformation increment, this was quite
dangerous because of rapid increase in deformation colud cause damage to structures on
the land. |
