description Alluminium alloy 2024-T3 is widely used in manufacturing industries such as aircraft, outomotive and ship industries due to its light weight, high strength (up to 450 MPa) and relatively good resistance to corrosion. However, alluminium alloy is easily suffered from fatigue corrosion if it is applied in corrosive environment such as sea water and at the same time it is subjected the dinamic load. One of the corrosion control methods is inhibitor addition. This research aims to study the influence of kalium chromate (K2CrO4) inhibitor in reducing the corrosion rates and the fatigue crack growth rates of Al 2024-T3 in sea water. In this research, the corrosion rates were measured using three-electrode potential technigue with saturated calomel (Hg2Cl2) as the reference electrode whereas the auxiliary electrode was platinum (Pt). Corrosion test was conducted in the sea water environment with various amounts of K2CrO4 inhibitor, namely 0,1%, 0,3% and 5%. Subsequently, the fatigue crack growth rates in sea water environment were studied using fatigue experiment with the stress rasio (R)=0,1 and the frequency of 15 Hz. Results show that the increase of K2CrO4 inhibitor concentration tends to reduce continously the corrosion rates until constant minimum corrosion rate is achieved at 0,5% K2CrO4. In addition, the inhibitor addition also increases the fatigue life of corrosion fatigue of Al 2024-T3. At this condition, the decrease of fatigue crack growth rates in the sea water caused by the addition of K2CrO4 occurs at low �K below 15 MPa.m1/2.
