description | Sarang-semut tubers (Myrmecodia tuberosa (non Jack.) BI) has been
widely used as part of traditional medicine against various diseases in West
Papua. Recently the extract has been reported to be active as antimicrobes. The
purpose of this study was isolate antimicrobial compound and to determine the
characteristics of isolate to contained in Myrmecodia tuberosa (non Jack.) BI.
Extraction of dried powder was performed by maceration method using
95% ethanol. Ethanol extract obtained was concentrated and then fractionated
with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water successively. Concentrated extracts and
fractions were tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and
Candida albicans with Agar Diffusion technique.
Active fraction was further fractioned by TLC-Preparative based on
Bioautography data against sensitive microbe. After proven the purity by TLC
method, isolate was identified by using LCMS, and 1H-NMR. Results showed that
isolate was active against Staphylococcus aureus. It was identified to be a
phenolic compound with carboxylic and aliphatic alcohol at side chain. |
