Description
Summary:Cadmium is a heavy metal with two valence, which is toxic to plants, animals, and humans. Rice bran contain phytat that can bind two valence ions. The aims of this experiment to analyze the effect of rice bran on growing medium to Cd uptake in Amarant (Amaranthus tricolor L.) and compare the growth of amarant exposed to cadmium on growing medium with and without of rice bran. The experimental design was factorial completely randomized design. The first factor was rice bran at four levels, i.e: 0 g, 10 g, 20 g , 30 g. The second factor was cadmium at four levels, i.e : 0 ppm, 25 ppm, 50 ppm and 75 ppm. Three replicates were made for each combination treatment. Measured parameter were soil Cd level, root and shoot Cd levels , chlorophyll content, plant biomass, leaf number and plant height. Data were analyzed statistically for analysis of variance followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test at α = 0.05. The results showed that 20 g of rice bran treatment decreased level of cadmium absorbed. Cadmium treatment decreased chlorophyll content, biomass, plant height, and number of leaves after two weeks, but the parameters increased after four weeks. Rice bran treatment on the plants exposed cadmium decreased biomass, plant height, and number of leaves. Interaction effect was found significantly on chlorophyll content and biomass there was no significantly effect on plant height and number of leaves.
