Ma i�o oral literature is a type of traditional vocal art is sung by a performer of Ma
i'o and performed in the tradition of Sasadu ritual in Sahu Community. This study
aims to reveal the poetic of spoken literature as seen from Ma i'o narrator,
performance, society, and the text. The object of this study is that spoken poetry
of Ma i'o, performance, Sasadu ritual obtained through direct recording and rooted
in observation and interviews. Issues will be discussed in this study, is a condition
of society as the owner of Sahu spoken literature, text creation process of Ma i'o,
the performance of Ma i�o, characteristics of Ma i�o text consisting of the
elements in the text, and relationship of Ma i�o performer, text, real-world and
listeners, and the formula of the ma i'o text in Sasadu traditional ritual. The
method used is qualitative research methods. The data was collected by recording
Ma i'o in Sasadu ritual and interviews. Datum was analyzed with poetic theory,
formula theory and the concept of convention.
The results showed that the performance tradition Ma i'o sung by the Ma
io narrators, the narrators of ma io consists of Ma i�o performer, the music player,
and Salai dancers. Before becoming a performer of Ma i 'o, the process must be
passed through is the transmission process by learning to parents and people who
master Ma i'o poem. The convention of Ma i�o performance consists of
performance, rest, performance, and ending. The composition of the text is not
standard and can evolve according to the context and the need of Ma i'o narrator.
There is text of Ma i�o Rorasa, Ma i�o Kore-kore, Ma i�o Ado-ado or Goto-goto,
Ma i�o Witi-witi, Ma i�o Liongo, and Ma i�o Kapelu. The elements contained in
the Ma i�o text are the sounds and songs, traditional music, custom dance, custom
clothing, and the traditional food and beverage.
