context, it needs to know how the first birth of Debus in Tidore society,
and her recent development. The research has a meaning to see Debus
development among traditional society in Tidore as syncretism
between Islamic and local tradition.
This study used a historical method, from heuristic to
reconstruction. The main sources are many literatures related to
history of tareqat and ritual of Debus. Beside it, some archives and
interviews are explored. All were found in Tidore, Jakarta, and Ambon.
Some findings of the research are firstly, Islam came to Tidore
with the infiltration of tareqat. They used Debus as one of medias for
Islamization among tradisional community in Tidore. Secondly, Debus
as a result of integration, had an culturally role in inciting resistance
against colonial power. The ritual bears a spiritually immunity for
identity and self-confidence among each member. Urgently, Debus has
an spiritually everlasting effect on Tidore society. |
