| Summary: | The novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban is an Islamic novel which
reveals the existence of forms of struggle against domination female pesantren
tradition. Women rose to the defense of self-esteem in the eyes of society. The
novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban revealed the existence of inequities between
men and women. The injustice caused by the dominance of men over women,
who assume that men have superior power. Father has the right ijbar daughter in
marriage process. Ketika Cinta Bertasbih and Ayat-Ayat Cinta novels presented to
compare with the novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, the novel tends to be
democratic and more respectful of women. Run in a balanced social role without
any coercion and pressure from any party, all decisions regarding marriage are all
delivered by the girls.
The method of analysis used in this study is discourse analysis of van
Dijk's famous model of social cognition analysis. Discourse will be analyzed with
three-dimensional dimensions of the text, social cognition and social context then
combines the three dimensions into a single unit of analysis.
The third reason for the selection of the novel are equally raised from the
rights of women and inequality gender. Abidah and Habiburrahman both lived in
the boarding school but have experience and a different mindset.
The results show that what is represented in the novel Perempuan
Berkalung Sorban does not correspond to reality in the life of the community. In
the novel represented that a father has the right ijbar (forced) to marry off
daughters to men chosen without his consent, so that women do not have the right
to determine with whom she will marry. The notion that the life of the pesantren
world that is identical with the dominant culture of patriarchy is not always true.
Novelist wanted to express that the tradition inherent in the world of the pesantren
are incompatible in public life. Pesantren as a place to gain knowledge of religion
would know that the positions and roles between men and women in marriage are
complementary. While the text of the novel Ketika Cinta Bertasbih and Ayat-Ayat
Cinta represent that although the scope of the life of the pesantren, the position of
women within marriage remains concerned, women are given the freedom to
determine his own choice.
