Resumo:The increase production of automotive real dilemma. On one side the automotive production help to human activity, but on the other side evoke the negative effect to the environment. The lubricant oil are dumped into the environment can inhibit the absorption of water in the soil by covering the ground pores. The lubricating oil are dumped into water can also reduce water quality. This research purpose is to know the efectivity of oil separator Modified Corrugated Plate Interceptor (MCPI). Tne separation of mixture between used oil and water by using MCPI that it works based on different density and gravity is an easy and simple method. To improve the performance of the tool is done by adding the plates from solid material and set the ceels with a certain angle. Wavy triangular shaped plate can make the oil separated from water by the slope of the triangular plate than the usual corrugated plate. MCPI tool with angle 30 o and triangular shape of plate is a modification of the CPI with angle 45 o cells and corrugated plate. The results showed that MCPI can reduce the oil content up to 93% at influent oil concentration 1000 ppm. The smaller the flow rate is, the smaller number Re is and the more laminar flow oil so that the greater the reduction. The smaller the distance between the plates, thecan produce the greater reduction of oil concentration. The more number of cells, reduction of oil is also better. This research has done by using used oil that is dispersed into water with research variables are plate distance, used oil concentration in the water and flow rate velocity. From the research results got obtained equations approach which gives the relationship between the oil level reduction and the sresearch variables: with mean relative error is 3.73629%.
