description Osseointegration level of titanium used for dental implant is related to the composition and roughness of implant surface. Implant with rough surface could support both anchoring bones and biomechanical stability. Meanwhile, osseointegration process was influenced by many factors, which one of it is implant design, especially, the characteristic of implant surface such as chemical composition, wettability, surface roughness, and porosity. Surface composition, hydrophilic, and roughness are parameters in the interaction of implant network and osseointegration process. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of immersion period which used for etching with acid solution of 18% HCl + 49% H2SO4 on roughness and wettability of titanium alloy surface. This research was conducted on twelve bridging plate samples with length of 10 mm, width of 8 mm, and thickness of 2 mm which immersed to acid solution of 18% HCl + 49% H2SO4 by ratio 1:1 and temperature of 60°C for 30 minutes, 40 minutes, and 50 minutes. Surface roughness measurement was done before and after etching to determine the roughness using Surfcorder SE 1700 and wettability test was done using software ImajeJ. Data samples was analyzed by one way anova. The results showed that the treatment causes the roughness surface of bridging plate sample decreases. One way anova test on rough samples show that the length of acid etching immersion periods has significant effect (p<0.05) on the roughness of titanium alloy surface. The results of wettability test show that more rough the surface, cause the greather the contact angle of surface so it takes longer to reach 0° of contact angel. The conclusion is that immersion period in acid etch of 18% HCl + 49% H2SO4 affect the roughness of titanium alloy surfaces.
