Summary: | Acute ischemic stroke is the leading cause of death and disability in the world.
Stroke treatment is determined by the diagnosis and prognosis that will occur and the
assessment based on clinical examination and investigation. Analysis of serum
biomarker for monitoring the central nervous system tissue damage at subclinical
level is needed. One of the proposed biomarker is a Neuron Specific enolase (NSE)
are believed to have a positive relationship with the degree of severity of acute
ischemic stroke. The purpose of this study was to test the correlation of serum NSE
levels with the incidence of deterioration in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
This study is a cross sectional hospital based study that discusses the
relationship of serum NSE levels with the incidence of deterioration in patients with
acute ischemic stroke. Assessment of the incidence of deterioration in this study
using Gadjah Mada Stroke Scale (SSGM). Examination of serum NSE levels using
the ElectroCheluminescence sandwich immunoassay (ECLIA) method with a Cobas
e 411. Data characteristics of study subjects is shown descriptively. To see a
correlation between serum NSE levels with a score SSGM on the whole subject of the
research used Spearman correlation analysis. Statistical calculations using
significance limit p <0.05 with 95% confidence interval.
There is a correlation between serum NSE levels with SSGM score of
-0.596 with p = 0.000. The results of correlation test serum albumin against SSGM
there a significant association (p = 0.001) and r = 0.445. Correlation of test results on
the number of leucocytes contained SSGM significant relationship (p = 0.001) with r
= -0.412. The results of correlation test glucose levels at any of the SSGM also
showed a significant correlation (p = 0.013) with r = -0.318.
The conclusion of this study is the higher levels of serum NSE, the lower score
SSGM or the higher levels of serum NSE, the more severe incidence of deterioration
of acute ischemic stroke. |
