| description | Background: The Indonesian maternal mortality rate (MMR) is considered high.
Based on the high incidence of MMR, the Indonesian government conducted
many efforts to reduce the case included developing the quality of health services.
However, sexual and reproductive health services have not been yet received by
the community in particularly women. Some regions merely reduced facility and
support for family planning program, for instance, which is part of the fulfillment
of reproductive health right. Women�s morbidity is the impact of unequal power
relation among household members, community and the State.
Methodology: The study was carried out with qualitative method. Data collecting
was performed by doing participation observation, in-depth interviews and focus
group discussion (FGD). Unit analysis of the study was household with total
informants were 21 married women and 19 married men from Burat village in the
Kepil sub-district, Wonosobo district, Central Java province.
Result: Women activities associated with household reproductive health such as
exclusive breast feeding, immunization, nutrition, contraception use and sex are
the form of serving and obedience which were manifested in the structure of
resistance in their marriages. Women inability to live healthy is the consequence
of values, resources and practices in their households and communities which
were supported by the varied State�s facilities and policies.
Conclusion: Women from Burat reveal that they empower themselves in doing
multi activities. The local government program of P2WKSS is perceived by
women as it enhances women participation and becomes a part to improve the
quality of life of their families. Nevertheless, women empowerment has not yet
improve household production of reproductive health due to many constraints
related to cultural values, practices and knowledge of the community and the
State. |
