Summary: | Electron Beam Machine (EBM) is the source of radiation in irradiation
process of an industrial product to improve its quality. EBM was being built at
National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) Yogyakarta with capacity of 300
kV/20 mA for industrial scale of the natural rubber pre-vulcanization. High
Voltage Source (HVS) was used in the EBM as a source of electron accelerating
voltage. Feedthrough was part of the HVS to connect between high-voltage
electric power to the accelerator EBM system. Feedthrough was made of resin.
The type of resin in this research was clear resin. This study were analyzed the
composition of the mixture of resin with hardener to make feedthrough that can be
used in the EBM system. The obtained result was used as a standard procedure to
designed and constructed the high voltage feedthrough from resin, according to
the electrical and mechanical standards.
Research was started by making the prototypes. Size of test sample was
(200x200x2) mm. Variation ratio of this samples were 1/400, 1/600, 1/800,
1/1000, 1/1250. Tests were conducted in the laboratory according to standard
IEC 1109: 1992 and ASTM D-638. The tests consisted of flashover test,
breakdown test, the contact angle test and tensile test.
The result showed that this resin is not classified as wet. The hardener
composition affects the dielectric strength. The more hardener is added result in
more material brittle and low dielectric strength. The lesser number of hardener
makes material has lower dielectric strength and softer. The best composition is
resulted of 1/ 800 ratio of hardener : resin. This composition has tensile strength
of 19.86 MPa, dielectric strength up to 43.2 kV/mm. The amount of voltage
flashover that occurs is a function of the distance. The longer the extent of which
is made the smaller flashover to be occured. The final conclusion is that the resin
can be used as materials of high voltage feedthrough EBM.
