Summary: | The small ruminant farming support the provision of national meat and export opportunities because its maintenance is relatively easy and supported by natural resources. The feasibility of prospects future in the development of goat, sheep in comparative advantage is influenced by the sufficiency and quality of available feed. Palm oil plantations as palm oil, vegetation, and a by product including palm kernel cake and solid decenter has not been used optimally. The research
has been conducted to identify (1) the potential availability of food sufficiency in small ruminant feed (2) the Feasibility of small ruminants and compare the feasibility of a goat palm oil plantation with sheep-palm oil plantations (3)the comparative advantage small ruminant farming in palm oil plantation.
The research was conducted in sub district of Tanjung Morawa and Bangun Purba, Deli Serdang regency from May to October 2010.Sub district of Tanjung Morawa as the centre of goat in Deli Serdang, and the two districts have a large palm oil plantation. The samples was take 120 small ruminant farmers consisted of 30 goat farmers and 30 sheep farmers in the sub district of Tanjung Morawa and 30 goat farmers and 30 sheep farmers in the sub district of Bangun Purba.
The respondent are those cut and carry system with over five heads. The benefit-cost of financial, economic and feasibility analysis, DRCR and standard approach of food sufficiency (ubinan methode) to be used in the research.
The result showed that small ruminants in Deli Serdang regency supported by the
availability of feed. Feasible to developed because the small rumianant farming were given farming economic, financial income and profitability. Its also has a comparative advantage so that it has a bright prospect in the development and export activities.
