description The present study evaluates the implementation of community participation in a project by the name Participatory Irrigation Sector Project (PISP) in Brebes Regency. PISP is a participatory irrigation management and development program that aims to achieve decentralized management of irrigation systems, which would ensure the sustainability and increase in agricultural production. Hence, community participation plays the important role in this project in order to involve community in every aspects of the project for increasing their welfare. This study also describes different levels of participation in two research areas under study. The result of the research is a recommendation for an ongoing project to make the project more effective and efficient and also to give some policy recommendation for the upcoming program related to community participation. This research is an explanatory (descriptive research) one, which aims at assessing community participation level in the PISP. The method used in this study is multiple case studies, which are studying the cases in the two villages and comparing the result between them. The present study measures the perception of the respondents toward the program, level of participation in PISP, and performances of community participation in the program. This research also describe the factors that made the level of participation in two research area is different.
