just rely only on fossil combustion fuel for power generation at the source of
energy made from fossil oil. Though raw material reserves are dwindling and oil
will soon run out within the next few years.The use of vegetable oil as fuel has
been employed in various forms, from pure oil with no modification (biofuels) or
in the form of methyl esters (biodiesel), which is closer to the characteristics of
usual diesel engine fuel. Biodiesel is the name given to diesel fuel derived from
plant oils or animal fats, usually in the form of methyl esters or ethyl esters of
fatty acids (fatty esters). This experiment tries to make a biodiesel from cotton
seed oil using base catalysts from waste ash of TKS.
The procedure of research was done by varying the temperature
succesively 40,50 and 60 (molar ratio metanol/oil 4 :1, reaction time 1 hour, ash
weight 8 % and stirring speed was kept constant), variation in reaction time in a
row 30, 60, 90 minutes (selected temperature, molar ratio metanol/oil 4:1, ash
weigth 8 % and stirring kept constant), ash weight variation in arow 6, 8 and 10 %
(W/W) ( selected temperature, selected reaction time, the molar ratio of
methanol/oil 4:1, stirring speed was kept constant). Then for the optimal results,
phisycal test of density, viscosity, flash point, pour point and also test on a
comparation engine B0, B20 and B40 were carried out.
The experimental results showed that the optimal results were obtained in
the variable temperature 60 oC, the reaction time of 90 minutes and the weight of
ash 10%, a density value of 0.8836, the viscosity value of 5.787, the flash point
value of 180.5, pour point valueand for test machine obtained torquevalue and
BO power higher than the value of torque and B40 power, and for the SFC, B40
was higher than the SFC Bo value . At the same torque, it was obtained the same
power at the same rpm /machine spin with a value of B0, B20, B40 increased
more and more following the machine spin. SFC B20 value was closer SFC BO
value. |
