description
The most of the potentially harmful substances affected the human body is free radicals. Nutrition plays an important role in maintaining the body's enzymatic defenses system against free radicals, especially in cellular defenses, against free radicals. This research focused on the isolation, characterization, and antioxidant assays of ethyl acetate extracts of 5 different macro alga, two green algae (Ulva fasciata and Caulerpa racemosa) and 3 brown algae (Padina australis, Sargassum sp, and Turbinaria deccurens). The result of in vitro antioxidant assays of DPPH radical scavenging (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) was followed by separation of the extract through the column chromatography sephadex C-8, and then analyzed using LCMS 2010A. The result of the antioxidative assay of each fraction showed that the chlorophyll fractions from green algae had higher antioxidative activity against free radicals than brown algae.
