PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITE COPPER/CARBON

The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of carbon content on the physical and mechanical properties of copper. Carbon powder that is varied to 0, 5, 10, 15 % by weight, is added to copper powder and sintered. The sintering temperature are 8000 C, 8500 C, 9000 C, 9500 C and hold in...

description
The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of carbon content on the physical and mechanical properties of copper. Carbon powder that is varied to 0, 5, 10, 15 % by weight, is added to copper powder and sintered. The sintering temperature are 8000 C, 8500 C, 9000 C, 9500 C and hold in 60 minutes. The specific gravity, hardness test and wear test were performed on each of the specimen. The result shown that carbon contents of 5% shown the highest mechanical characteristics while 0%, 10% and 15% shown a lower value due to the large amount of porosity
