| description | <p>There is a shortage of wood in Indonesia due to imbalance between the wood demand by forests<br />
industries and capability to supply wood. The wood from the recently established industrial plantation<br />
forest has not come to the expectation. On the other hand, the size farm forest has increased quite<br />
significantly in recent years and therefore the potential offarm forest to produce wood is also increased.<br />
From silvicultural point of view, the development of farm forest still has some shortcomings. The use of<br />
poor seed from unknown seed source with narrow genetic base is still widespread. Spacing, species<br />
mixture, stand improvement and selection for better trees are still poorly practised by farmers and a<br />
strategy for improving wood production of the farm forest is discuseed.</p> |
