behavior of the operators and ofticials might be the worst. It is proposed to change the technical<br />
corrections by involving the output orientation Wood dimensions and quality are the two important<br />
parameters for wood processing industries.<br />
Matching the silvicultural practices and the output orientations requires some reorientation by<br />
thinking silvicultural actions on the other way around. The current wood dimensions and quality needed<br />
by all national wood industries should be inventoried. The same technique is used for data gathering of<br />
the global situation on wood industries.. This reorientation will provide guidence for the silvicultural<br />
development and implementation tor producing high productivity of Indonesian forests.<br />
For the time being, the national wood industries are oriented to more plywood product. This needs<br />
logs with wood specific gravities ranging from 0.3 to 0.8, and minimal log diameter of 60cm. If the trend<br />
of wood processing is toward composition boards basis, then all forms ofIogs could be utilized and wood<br />
specific gravity as low as 0.1 could be used. The international wood industries in many countries such as<br />
in Japan and United States have been utilizing all lignocellulosic wastes such as agricultural and plantation<br />
wastes for producing composition boards. The high strength wood can be fulfilled by lamination or<br />
adhesion technique. The new products of Super Strength Timber of Japan will substitute the solid wood<br />
in the future.</p> |
