description | <p>The effect of different rooting hormones and rates of hormone application on clones of teak<br />
(Teetona grandis) was studied. The specific objectives of this research were I) to find the best rooting<br />
hormooe and the optimal concentration for shoot cutting of teak, 2) to ascertain clonal variation on<br />
rooting ability, number of roots, longest main roots, number of leaves, and 3) to identitY the best clones.<br />
The study was conducted in Teak Improvement Center, Cepu. Shoot cuttings used were ftom the<br />
hedge garden previously established in the center using materials ITomplus trees. The first experiment to<br />
find the best and rate of hormone application was arranged in a completely randomized design with 20<br />
replications. using the same clone. Three different hormones were tested namely, IBA, NAA and Rapid<br />
Root, at a rate of 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 ppm for each hormone. The'best hormone and rate, were then used<br />
to evaluate 50 different clones. The second experiment was arranged in randomized completely block<br />
design, replicated three times. In every treatment and replication 20 shoot cuttings were used.<br />
The result showed that Rapid Root with a rate of 10ppm, produCedthe best rooting ability (90 %).<br />
Differences between clones were very apparent on .rooting ability, number of root, length of root The<br />
estimated heritabilities for rooting ability. number of roots, and root length were 0.77, 0.68, 0.59 respectively.</p> |
