description
The Kasihan district is one of the gold prospects in Indonesia, which has been mined during the Dutch colonialism and is abandoned for many years ago. But, the lack of publications has made this deposits remain unknown. Kasihan Fe-Mn (Au) skarn deposit consists of 4 main alteration types, i.e., propylitic, argillic, phyllic, and calcsilicate alteration. The silicic alteration were characterized by the present of quartz and calc-silicate minerals, such as garnet, clinopyroxene, rhodonite. The clinopyroxene consists of hedenbergite and johannsenite. The Fe-Mn oxide was likely as a result from partial leaching of hedenbergite/johannsenite components, in which the relict form of hedenbergite/johannsenite is preserved in this deposit. It is interesting to know that concentration of Fe-Mn was not similar in some locations, where the location that rich in Fe will be poor in Mn. It seems that the deposit shows an antipathetic compositional relationship between the hedenbergite and johannsenite. This is probably affected by stability field between hedenbergite and johannsenite during hydrothermal activities in this area.
