description | <p>Synthesis of 3-(3-allyl-4-hydroxy-5-methoxy phenyl)-1-phenyl prop-2-en-1-one from vanillin and its potentially application to the development of cyanide and fluoride anion sensor has been investigated. This compound has been synthesized via O-allylation reaction of vanillin (1) produced 4-allyloxy-3- methoxy benzaldehyde (2) followed by Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction between compound 2 with acetophenone gave 3-(4-allyloxy-3-methoxy phenyl)-1-phenyl prop-2-en-1-one (3) in 97.28% yield and Claisen rearrangement of compound 3 produced 3-(3-allyl-4-hydroxy-5-methoxy phenyl)-1-phenyl prop-2- en-1-one (4) in 97.03% yield. Based on color change in the various of anion indicated that compound 4 showed ionochromic phenomenon and its potentially application to the development of anion sensor. The compound 4 could detect cyanide and fluoride anion with limit of detection 200 ppm and 3000 ppm, respectively. Compound 4 could also be used as a material in the preparation of paper indicator for cyanide and fluoride anion.</p> |
