Description
Summary:
Immobilization of Aspergillus niger biomass on chitosan (AN-Chi) that was isolated from shrimp shells waste and its application for adsorption of Pb(II) metal ion has been studied. The study starts with determination of mass ratio of Aspergillus niger biomass to chitosan, contact time, pH of solution and initial concentration of cations. Total Pb(II) metal ion adsorbed was calculated from the difference of metal ion concentration before and after adsorption by AAS. The results showed that optimum condition for adsorption of Pb(II) ions by the AN-Chi was achieved with mass ratio of Aspergillus niger to chitosan 10%(w/w), solution pH of 7, contact time of 60 minutes and initial concentration adsorption 25mg/L. The hydroxyl (-OH) and amino (-NH2) functional groups were believed to be responsible for the adsorption of Pb(II) ions.
