Description
Summary:
Balinese Grapevines (Vitis vinifera L Alphonso lavalle variety), gingivitis, anaerobic bacteria Gingivitis is a periodontal disease that caused by accumulation of bacteria in dental plaque. Most of periodontal plaque microorganisms are anaerobic bacteria. Antibacterial agent for reducing bacterial plaque has been developed for preventing or treating gingivitis. Balinese grapevines (Vitis vinifera L Alphonso lavalle variey), one of Indonesian medicine potential hit contain various substances that act as antibacterial agent, such as flavonoid, tannin, saponin and gallic acid. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of Balinese grapevines extract (Vitis vinifera L. Alphonso lavalle variey) against inhibition zone of gingivitis anaerobic bacteria isolated from wistar rat gingival sulcus.
Anaerobic bacteria isolated from wistar rat gingival sulcus that induced gingivitis by ligature placement around the cervix of lower incisor teeth for 7 days. Four petri dishes contain of BHIA medium were smeared with anaerobic bacteria suspension and made a six holes with 6 mm diameter of each. Each hole was dropped with 50 JlIof 10%, 20%, 40%, 80% concentration of Balinese grapevines extract, chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% as positive control, and distilled water as negative control. The formed inhibition zone was measured by using sliding calipers. Data was analyzed by one way ANOVA.
The results of present studies showed that concentration of Bali grapes influences inhibition zone of anaerobic bacteria. Inhibition zone increases along with increasing concentrations of Bali Grape. However the highest concentration of Bali grape (80%) showed a smaller inhibition zone than Clorheksidin glukonat 0.2% as positive control.
