Shrnutí:<p>Thumb sucking is a common childhood behavior, which has an adaptive value for children up to the fourth year of life. It is usually associated with oral pleasure and self comforting behavior. Chronic practice may lead to dental and skeletal deformities. Hence, it would be necessary to use an appliance to eliminate these habits. Bluegrass is the most successful appliance that has proven than another tool in managing the thumb sucking habits in children at age 7 to 13 years. The purpose of this study is to determine the success rate in the using of bluegrass as a therapeutic appliance to eliminate the thumb sucking habit. Bluegrass appliance offers more benefits, such as the using of TeflonTM roller that is not only as a reminder tool but also as a distraction to the patient. The making and the adaptation of this appliance is also easy. Children can adapt quickly to bluegrass and relatively feel minimal inconvenience because it does not interfere the tongue movement when they are eating or speaking, unlike other appliances. Recently, the successful bluegrass appliance is very high, and failure cases or recurrences after the using of this appliance have not found.</p>
