description |
Background : Tissue engineering is one of many strategies to achieve goals in regeneration of tooth. Natural growth factor is one of many method used in tissue engineering. Platelet Rich Factor (PRF) is newly developed platelet concentrate that is prepared from the patients own blood. It is reported to represent a source of multiple growth factor. Case: This article presents a case of 45 years old female had the periodontal defect in the upper left molar caused by chronic periodontitis. She felt dull pain and uncomfortable. Case Management: The opening flap surgery has been done, a bone defect was found in tooth 26,27. Subsequently the exposed were curetted and all granulation tissue and socket debris were removed. At the same time, 8 mL of blood was drawn from the antecubital fossa of the patient into blood collecting tubes. These were then immediately centrifuged at 400 g for 12 minutes. The PRF layer was removed and mixed with bone graft subsequently was filled in bone defect. Clinical and radiographic findings are discussed along with 3 months. In this case report, we suggest treatment of periodontal defect with a combination of natural growth factor (PRF) and bone graft which resulted in almost thicker bone gain postsurgically. Conclusion: In cases of chronic periodontitis, treatment option of a combination of PRF and bone grafts holds promise and can be considered. PRF improves wound healing and stimulates bone formation.
|
