| Summary: | <p>Background: The upper complete denture covers the major area of palatal mucosa where a great number of mechanoreceptors are densely distributed. Coveringthe palatal with a denture base causes several physiologicaland functional distrurbances such as unpleasantness and gag reflex. However, complete denture wearing demands the coverage of an oral mucosa. Maxillarycomplete dentures inevitably cover palatal extensively to enlarge retentive forces and intensity in mechanical strength of the dentures.<br />
Conclusion:. Despite the contravacy of palatal uncoverage in upper complete denture, palateless complete denture hassome meritsfor upperedentulouspatient. Palatelesscompletedenture willrestore the lostgoodtastes and more comfortable and physiologic to upper edentulous patients and a good alternative to full palatal coverage complete denture in the properly selected cases.</p> |
