Summary: | In one hand, land use change has resulted in positive impact, but on other
hand, it gives negative impact on the environment. Land scarcity caused land
conversion in preservation areas resulted in environment degradation.
Conducted in the Entrop areas of Jayapura City, the study aimed at
analyzing land use change, and its influenced factors and whether there was a
significant correlation between land use change and environment degradation. It
used rationalistic method, while the analysis was made using overlay technique
and graphical and tabulation description of the correlation between the land use
change and environment degradation.
The study showed that there has been land use change of 43 hectares in the
period of 1999 to 2009, in which 28.7 hectares was located in the preservation
areas (KSA/KPA and TWA). The land use change was influenced by three
factors, which were the policy of the government of Jayapura City, the growth and
the development of the local population, and the land holding. The graphical and
tabulation description indicated the presence of significant correlation between the
land use change and environment degradation of increasingly wider critical land,
erosion and flood in the Entrop area of Jayapura City. In order to prevent and to
reduce more serious environment degradation of the Entrop area, relocation or
maintenance of the Entrop area could be organized in accordance with its current
function by zoning performance.
