| Summary: | To address the poverty issue in their area, the community of Gunung
Terang, Air Hitam District, West Lampung Regency, facilitated by nongovernmental
organizations (NGOs) Watala, compile data on poverty based on
local wisdom called the Joint Poverty Assessment Society (Kajian Kemiskinan
Bersama Masyarakat/KKBM). KKBM isa breakthrough because it creates a
definition, causes, standards, and indicators of poverty based on local wisdom.
The interesting thing here is, why people make KKBM and how they formulate
and implement it in Pekon level, whereas the Central Bureau of Statistics (Badan
Pusat Statistik/BPS) has data that official? Furthermore, how are the influence of
KKBM towards government programs that have been prepared? The purpose of
study was to determine and assess the reasons and process KKBM Pekon level.
This study also describes the role and influence in policy implementation KKBM
poverty reduction. Therefore, this study used qualitative methods with emphasis
on a single case study approach. Data collection techniques were done through
literature study, field observations and interviews with respondents. Data were
analized by descriptive analysis.
The results of study is the emergence of a new way of looking at poverty
which is based on local wisdom. KKBM successfully define, create indicators,
and devise a more realistic poverty rate for all members of the community
involved in it. KKBM cannot be separated from the strong social capital among
members of society. With data that is more realistic then the government
assistance being rolled can be better targeted. KKBM expected to be a pioneer for
other areas to look at poverty in a local way. KKBM also gives lessons on the
importance of implementing good governance.
