Summary: | The study aimed at finding the decrease in the carbon dioxide (CO2), the increase
in the concentration of methane (CH4) when the CO2 gas of biogas was absorbed by
zeolite and active carbon and at determining the effective mixture of zeolite and active
carbon in absorbing the CO2 gas of the biogas. Meanwhile, it was useful in obtaining
better biogas composition for more powerful burning energy.
It was conducted using the adsorption instrument made of hard pipe containing the
mixture of zeolite and active carbon at variou ratios. Its independent variables were the
variations of weight ratio of the zeolite and the active carbon, which were 100:0, 97,5:2,5 , 95:5, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40, and 50:50. Each of the variations was used to adsorb the CO2 gas of the biogas and analyzed using Gas Chromatograph in the Center for Volcano Research and Development Technology Yogyakarta, while the dependent variable were the concentrations of methane and carbon dioxide gases .
The results of the study showed that the mixture of the zeolite and the active
carbon, at the ratio 60:40 could be used to adsorb 45,22% CO2 gas and increased 37,65% concentration of methane gas.
