description The study discussed about the tie-dying weafing art and the articulation of Sikka women of Central Flores in 1960-2008 in a historical cultural study. The background of the study was the lack of scientific study of the tie-dying weaving art and Sikka women. It used historical method in answering main study problems. The main subject of the thesis was the actualization of the development and the change in the tie-dying weaving art of Sikka that have contributed to the effort of the local women in making social changes. At the beginning the tie-dying weaving art served as the symbol of the local cultural identity of three-in-one (Tri Tunggal) in which the tiedying weaving art and the local women have enriched the perspective of the tie-dying weaving art of Sikka. Sikka women had their own artistic sense that was articulated in the tie-dying weaving art with its new artistic elements as the actualization of the artistic sense of the local women. The local tie-dying weaving art has been considered as the integral part of national arts as clearly observed in the decoration styles reflected in the local cultural identity. The causal factors of the change consisted of internal and external ones. The first resulted from the policital condition at the beginning of Indonesian independence era that subsequently caused economic, social, cultural, religious and artistic life of the members of the local culture. The second resulted in the new culture without any ignorance of the original local culture. The change in the tie-dying weaving art and the articulation of Sikka women of Central Flores was studied in the effort to preserve and to develop the attitude of global thinking, but local action.
