Description
Summary:Each language has its own system which is in close relationship with the culture of the language society. France and Indonesia are very different in language system and culture. Mostly European languages, like French, they differentiate their nouns and pronouns as masculine and feminine gender type. Differentiation on gender type usually gives inequality bias in the practical use. The feminine type is often used unequally than the other type so we can call it as a masculine superiority. Such as in French, in Indonesian this masculine superiority is usually occurred, although there is no differentiation of gender in its nouns and pronouns. The objective of this study is especially for knowing the differences and similarities of masculine superiorities that occurred in both languages, French and Indonesian. The method of the study is by contrasting all data about masculine superiorities, grabbed from various sources, like magazines, newspapers, dictionaries, and any other sources of both languages. The masculine superiorities found in this work, such as generalization power of masculine, feminine inferiority as well as unequally uses in sense and role, feminine association with objects, and the absence of the feminine type. The conclusion of this study is that masculine superiority in French and Indonesian can be notified symmetrically in almost language levels, such as in phonology, morphology, and lexicology. The similarities are not precisely identical, due to the differences in language system and cultural background.
